At what db of loudness is the 12v power supply necessary?
Master Series ultra-low noise, in-ear Binaural microphones - Made in USA
I’m sampling a piano at 3 different dynamic layers and am wondering at what point of loudness the 12v power supply would be necessary. I want to keep the signal path as clean as possible so I would prefer fewer items between the mic and the recorder, but I also don’t want to be unsure of the loud dynamic layer until playback.

I would use the power module with any sound over 105 dB. One thing to keep in mind, a power module is not an amplifier, so does not add any noise or distortion to the signal path. It merely provides more power to the microphones so that they can reproduce the louder sounds without distortion. There is absolutely no degradation of the audio signal path by using a power module.
